Playful Lounge

Client Brief -
Figure out a more functional way to use this space at the back of the home, which was currently storing the client's dining furniture. I suggested we move the dining furniture to the space adjacent to the kitchen and create a dining room there. Then, this space would then be freed up to use as the playroom and family room. Since it was towards the back of the home, the toys would be able to remain out of sight when guests first entered the home.

Inspiration -
Fun, function, and comfort.

Challenge -
Using only existing pieces found from other areas of the house, that would work well with the new plan and not be missed in their former locations.

Outcome -
A large sofa and arm chair from the basement moved up to provide seating in the family room, and the smaller sofa from the living room went down to the basement.  There were also two wall mounted bookcases in the basement, which moved up to the room to frame the fireplace and hold the toy bins and books. A plush, patterned rug from the living room was moved into the new space as a comfortable ground for playing on the floor.  A large arc lamp that had been in the living room, was relocated to the room for some fun task lighting. Fun and playful artwork were added to the walls. The space was transformed into a playful lounge, complete with comfortable seating, lots of patterns, color, storage and of course toys!
