Modern Dining

Client Brief -
Turn this space, currently being used as a breakfast and sitting area, into a dining room to accommodate everyday and formal meals. Then create a design aesthetic that was modern and organic, with hints of Morocco to tie in with the new living room.

Inspiration -
Three pieces the clients loved - a modern globe ceiling pendant, a beautiful raw, reclaimed wood dining table and antique Parisian cafe chairs.

Challenge -
Combining the different styles of the inspiration pieces.

Outcome -
After moving the small round breakfast table and daybed out of the room, space was freed up to incorporate the large dining table and 10 chairs.  To maintain the look of the reclaimed wood table, yet make it more durable for everyday eating, a clear coat laquer was applied. To hide some of the imperfections in the old cafe chairs and tie in with the modern elements in the room, the chairs were painted in a high-gloss black. A large mirror in a thick black frame was place on the main wall to visually expand the space, and highlight the table when it was dressed up for formal occasions. The bright red bar stools were already being used at the counter, so a red Moroccan style star pendant was added above the bar, and a red and white art piece to the side wall, to continue this punch of color. The kitchen needed more counter space, so a carrera marble french-styled island was added, and connected nicely with the Parisian cafe chairs in the dining room. Finally, large Moroccan lanterns were hung above the island to carry the Moroccan theme into the kitchen. The kitchen and dining areas showcased a wonderful blend of modern, french classic, and Morocco.
