Anchors Aweigh!

Client Brief -
Design a boy's room around Land of Nod's Pirate bedding, that would be fun and playful for a toddler, yet sophisticated enough for an older child .

Inspiration -

A pirate bedding set from Land of Nod, with a wave pattern in rich blues and subtle pirate details.

Challenge -

Keeping with the pirate aspect subtle and fun without being scary for a toddler.

Outcome -
A pale sea blue was chosen for the walls, to keep with the nautical theme. To add more pattern, a grey and white chevron rug provided visual stimulation and complimented the various shades of blue. The furniture was selected in all black and white, to keep the focus on the prints and pattern in the room. An IKEA bed was the ideal choice as it was low to the ground (in case of a fall) and provided large storage drawers underneath. A simple grey linen arm chair (also found at IKEA) created a cozy reading corner, and was customized by painting the feet white to tie in with the rest of the furniture. Crisp white cordless blackout shades were hung on the windows (highly recommended for any nursery or kids room). Finally, fun nautical accessories were sourced. A personalized pirate ship decal with the child's name was placed above the bed (a great idea for an easy to remove wall feature near beds or cribs that is also safe). The jolly roger and anchor pillows were purchased as part of the bedding from Land of Nod and coordinated with the greys and whites in the room. To complete the room, three driftwood wall art pieces were sourced through an Etsy shop, with a wonderful quote for a growing adventurer, "Not all who wander are lost".
