Moroccan Living

Client Brief -
Design an exciting living room with a Moroccan feel, that guests would see immediately upon entering the home.

Inspiration -

Use a Moroccan patterned iron grate as the fireplace surround to create a unique focal point.

Challenge -

Finding an iron grate to cut in the shape of the surround proved difficult and costly. However, a company that specializes in customizable, and paintable lattice pieces, helped create a similar effect.

Outcome -
A Moroccan vibe was created to reflect the client's love of travel, specifically their trip to Morocco. With an easy and inexpensive solution for the fireplace surround, it was possible to continue the wall treatment above the built-in mantel, creating an impressive impact and visually raising the ceiling height.  The lattice piece came in white and was sprayed with a metallic iron paint, to give it the same look as an iron grate.  The piece was easily nailed to the surround with small tack nails, after the room had been painted. A cool blue was chosen for the walls, to bring in color in a subdued yet noticeable way. Two large leather club chairs owned by the client were placed side by side to lounge back in. A simple white sofa was purchased to keep the space clean and modern. To add even more pattern to the space a detailed wood chair and complimentary light pendant were selected. A casual reclaimed wood coffee table tied all the natural element of the room together. Finally, Moroccan lanterns were used to accessorize and provide romantic evening candlelight. The space became a casual yet chic living room with memories of an evening in Morocco.
